Someday...

Someday

A little tidbit about me that seems to grab people’s attention: I lost nearly 100lbs, and have kept it off for 3+ years. As you might imagine, before that dramatic weight loss, my life was very different.

Running was always my ‘someday’. Corny as it may sound, I finally realized that unless I make a decision to do something about it today, ‘someday’ is useless. So in late 2008 I hired a trainer and set off on a journey that would take me from 5k to marathon over the course of a year. Running has become my 'happy place' and since then I've run 3 full marathons and countless half marathons. I'm also a coach, now helping other people explore this dream. How did it happen? One day at a time!

When finally I got out there and started DOING the runs, I made a leap from my dreams and straight into a new reality. We only have right now to make one decision to start living our dream. It’s one decision, for one day.

I accomplished something because I wanted it. I put in the work, day in and day out, because all I have is today. I never could have guessed how running would change my life in such a positive way. From the places I've traveled to run, to the people I've met and formed lasting friendships with while running together, it has become an integral part of who I am.

Sometimes I feel like running all the time can be a selfish thing. It takes a lot of time out of my days and weekends, and races seem to be about me, me, me. But, I've been able to meet so many likeminded people who love to run and be active! Encouraging others to find how exercise fits into their lives makes me feel like maybe my love for the sport (and finally taking care of myself) can have a positive impact on others lives. After all, when you love yourself you are able to give love to others.

You may not have weight to lose, you may not be interested in running a marathon, and your life may not need changing, but you can certainly benefit from the feeling of accomplishment that exercise and fitness give you.

Think about it... How many times do we say ‘Someday’? … too often, right? “Someday I’ll run a half marathon”…. “someday I’ll start that business”… “someday I’ll go back to school”…

What’s your dream? What’s your one decision? Where will you be in one year?

Imagine what is possible when you make a decision and stick to it. Take on a challenge like the LoziLu. Look where you are now, make that one decision to start training and see the chain reaction of awesome in your life. The people you'll meet and the places you'll go will surprise you.

Good luck and have fun!
